Meet The Designer

Hello!
Hello, I'm Yuko McCloud.
Originally from Japan, I now live in Southampton, Hampshire with my family, where I create bespoke wedding cakes under The Cherished Cake.
What I value most in cake design is simple.
A wedding cake is not something that lasts forever — it is something that becomes a memory once it is shared.
For this reason, I do not follow trends. Instead, I focus on creating cakes that reflect you — your story, your atmosphere, and your sense of beauty.
Each handmade sugar flower is crafted individually, with care and intention. In every petal, I quietly wish for happiness for the couple it will belong to.
I use sugar flowers not only for food safety and practicality, but also for their artistic expression. Unlike fresh flowers, they allow complete creative freedom, enabling designs that are both refined and deeply personal.
In Japanese aesthetics, there is a concept called ma — the space, pause, or interval between things. It is not emptiness, but a carefully considered balance of presence and absence.
This idea lies at the heart of my design approach. Through the placement of sugar flowers, colour, and detail, I aim to create a sense of harmony and quiet elegance, allowing each design to breathe.
Since founding The Cherished Cake in 2014, I have continued to develop my skills through ongoing learning, practice, and artistic exploration. My work has been recognised at Cake International, where I have been awarded two Silver Awards and one Bronze Award in the Wedding Cake category — achievements that reflect both my technical skill and artistic vision.
When I am not creating cakes or sugar flowers, I enjoy painting, drawing, and walking in the beautiful countryside. These quiet moments often inspire my creativity and influence the way I approach design.
Above all, I hope to create a wedding cake that becomes a meaningful part of your celebration and a cherished memory for years to come.
